#MarathonMonday, TnT Tuesday, and Wisdom Wednesday. Let’s Play Catch Up!

baby gym! It’s going to grow!

Hey, hey! Yes, I’m still alive. I’m so alive in fact that I’m having a hard time getting around to the blogspere world. Much of my time has been dedicated to WORK, personal training, and getting ready for my Back-2-School #FitMomsRock event later this month. This is the first time I’ve attempted something like this so wish me luck! The hubby has been helping get the home gym prepped and ready to go. It’s a small start but it IS a start!!! My business has been slowly growing. But progress is still progress no matter how slowly. One step at a time. Just like the marathon.

#MarathonMonday

Oh, speaking of marathon I’m now in week four (how did one month come and go almost already?!) and all systems are still going well. I’ve hit every planned workout. I’ve added two new elements to my training: more strength training (but keeping it lower in weight, higher in reps) and the second element I’ve added this time around is adding in more GMP (goal marathon pace) to my long runs. Before I’ve always just ran my long runs long and slooooow with maybe one or two miles fast at the end. But I am pushing the envelope a bit. For example, my goal this time is to SMASH the heck out of my BQ goal. What is required for my age and gender is this: 26.2 miles in 3:35 which translates roughly to an 8:12 min/mile. But I don’t want to squeek my way in. So my long run this past Saturday was a 16 miler with 10 miles at GMP @ 7:40-45 min/mile pace. I ran the first 6 miles around an 8:10-8:15 and finished the last 10 at goal pace. I did it. I held on strong. It wasn’t easy but I am now more confident in being able to hold that pace for the long haul. I most definitely attribute my pick up in speed to strength training, minding the little things (yoga, core work, stability work), and adding GMP to my long runs. Plus, I’ve been running my last mile slightly dehydrated. Trying to mimic how the last mile or so of the marathon will feel…I’ve ran 4 so I’m very familiar with how my body responds and feels during those last few miles. The last half mile is the worst…That last long run did take a lot out of me… so it’s not something I will do every week. Thank the Lord it’s cut back week!

I don’t count my miles until it starts hurting 😉

#WisdomWednesday:

In order to achieve something you haven’t been able to do, you MUST do what makes you temporarily uncomfortable. You CAN NOT just go along with what you’re “good at” or what is comfortable. You need to CHALLENGE every fiber of your body, mind, and soul to see yourself grow in greatness. -Jess

#TnTTuesday

Strong core = Strong runner! So I’m working on building my exercise video library! I’m slow but I’ll figure it all out. 😉 Here’s a fun move to try:

And for the random:

So what’s for dinner?! Man, we have been TERRIBLE about dinner. Like wait till the last minute and decide on cereal or sanwiches…again. #TheStruggleIsReal Partly due to my ridiculous work schedule and tired little marathon body. SO…we invested in a new kitchen toy are going to try it out tonight! One of my favorite dishes is chicken, veggies, and rice. It’s simple, easy, and now it’s going to be super tasty. I plan on making the dish healthier than what the original Food.com recipe calls for … a little less butter and lower sodium soy sauce. I’ve never used a wok before…I guess it’s time for me to take a wok on the wild side… LOL Anyone else love puniness?!

'Don't wait up for me, Dear. I'm taking a wok on the wild side.'

‘Don’t wait up for me, Dear. I’m taking a wok on the wild side.’

Have you used a wok before? What’s your favorite dinner dish? If you’re training for anything how’s it going? Any new training elements your adding??
blessed and beautiful running!

#MarathonMonday August Goals, Personal Training, and Things

Goals for August

1.) Get to bed earlier! Sleep has been a struggle for me. Which in turn makes 5 am impossible. It’s all about discipline and creating a balanced routine!! But. If you’re a mother I digress…good luck sister. 😉

2.) Reading more. I’ve managed to get halfway though the book Spark. It’s about exercise and the brain. We all know exercise makes us “feel good” but there’s so much more to it! It’s an enlightening read. I’m determined to finish it before summer ends!

3.) Actively promote my personal training buisness more! This is something I’m not really great at. Selling and promoting are not my strengths. I want people to magically show up at my doorstep and ask for my assistance. We all know that’s not how it rolls. So go and LIKE Pink Payne Fit! C’mon, it’ll be fun.

4.) Keep with my salad a day marathon training plan. I’ve had a personal goal to eat a fresh spinach, arugula, and/or kale salad a day in an effort to naturally increase my iron, fiber, and nitrous oxide intake. Which will hopefully translate into faster running…I’ll try anything!

5.) Tart cherry juice at least weekly. No pain relievers!

6.) Get back on my strength training wagon. My wheels kinda rolled off last week…I worked so hard during late spring/early summer to build my muscles up and with two weeks of increased mileage I’ve killed my weight room libido! I realize I’m now in a different training phase but I I don’t want to lose all I’ve worked so hard for. So I’m re-working some goals and time management planning. It’s tough to squeeze it all in!! But, with a good game plan just about anything is possible. 🙂

Shoot for the moon my friends!

Any specific August goals for you? Are you able to strength train much when your mileage creeps up? How do you squeeze sleep in?!

blessed & beautiful running.

#MarathonMonday, 5 Motivational Songs for the Long Run, and a WINNER

Happy Monday y’all! I had a long but fun weekend. Friday was boring with at home work. Saturday I cheered on my girls at the Color Run in Asheville:

Vixons and Villians!

They are all amazing women and I couldn’t be prouder!! These were some of my Sunday night Flying Feet in Faith Ladies RUN group runners. Go girls!!!

Then, Sunday was my first long run of this marathon cycle with 97% humidity.  As a distance runner I’m so over running through soup. ugh. But. Glad it’s done. And the crazy thing was as I was running I kept thinking “how dear Lord, am ever going to run 26.2 miles any faster than this?!” Funny how with each training cycle I think very similar thoughts. I had to remind myself that I have fun four marathons now. And I always finish them. Not always strong, but, I still finish them. So yes, I can cover the distance! Having my new inspirational bracelet form My Big Dream Shop is pretty motivting too. Oh, and I finally hit my mileage goal I set for myself a few weeks ago! So far week one marathon of marathon training was right on target. Only 15 weeks to go…

I’m digging my new #Irun4 bracelet thanks to Dream Big Runner!!

Then I’ve been thinking a lot about what words I’m putting in to my head. From my own inner thoughts to the words in my earbuds. Sometimes you just need that good beat to get your booty in gear on the run. Especially if you’re struggling through a long tempo run. Finding good, positive, and upbeat running Christian music can be tough to find. Let alone finding any kind of song without copious amounts of cursing. So I’ve compiled five favorites of mine. I hope you enjoy them as well!

5 Motivational Songs to Get You Going

1.) Soul On Fire by Third Day

This one is by far my favorite right now! When I’m having a great run I feel like my soul is indeed on fire.

2.) Brother by Need to Breathe

This one isn’t really for speed work but it’s great for the long run. I am in love with it’s message.  Be a “sister” in the running community!

3.) The Lost Get Found Britt Nicole

This song has been one of my favorites for a few years. It reminds me to be the light of the world! Don’t let your fire burn out!

4.) Overcomer by Mandisa

’nuff said here! Running a marathon is truly a courageous adventure where you will have to overcome many obstacles!

5.) Overwhelmed by Big Daddy Weave

This one speaks to me when I’m running in the forest. Because I am just absolutely overwhelmed by how AWESOME God is and how MARVELOUS this world is. From the mountains to the oceans His glory is everywhere. And who am I? I am but another small human. And it’s overwhelming. Even if you aren’t a believer, you have to admit that when you stand next to the ocean or great mountain you must feel overwhelmed at some point…

I’ve been known to throw my hands up and praise God during a run…I may look cray cray but I am indeed blessed!!!

Oh yes, and the winner from My Big Dream giveaway is:
Jackie M.

congrats and your info will be on the way soon!!!

How’s your training going? Fav run? Fav weekend happening? Fav song?? What would you add to this playlist? Do you listen to music when you run?

blessed and beautiful running.

#MarathonMonday DREAM BIG + GIVEAWAY

#Irun4Dylan and Flying Feet in Faith

One for my #Irun4 buddy and one for me 🙂

Happy Monday y’all! What better way to kick off Monday and marathon training than with a giveaway?! Yeah I thought you’d agree it’s an awesome idea. When Christine (an amazing mother runner, blogger, and coach) contacted me via Dream Big Runner about her Dream Big Shop I immediately knew I wanted to partner with her! She has a big heart.  I think of the running community as a wonderful group of generous givers. And what better way to be involved than creating running jewelry and giving back?!

For every purchase off her Etsy shop she donates $2 to charity. And her new shop has taken off already donating over $1000!!

The shipping was prompt, price affordable, and the quality high. And they are customizable to almost any design you can think of! I’m thoroughly impressed and can’t wait to put my buddy’s bracelet in the mail. He lives a few states away so our matching bracelets are a sweet way to connect us. If you haven’t heard of #Irun4 it’s basically a community of runners/athletes who run/workout for a child with special needs who themselves can not run. It has been such a heartwarming journey for me personally and I tell you, my buddy is my hero and motivator!

I had the shoe tags designed after my blog and it’s motto…flying feet in faith.

So you want one too? Good news! Christine is generously giving away a bracelet or set of shoe tags to one of my readers.

Contest starts today and ends Sunday at midnight! Good LUCK! 🙂

So marathon training….we meet again….

How am I training for this marathon season? Which plan? What book?!

Yes, I do have a new book. But no, I’m not following it’s plan. I’m reading it for marathon training content and extra lessons to be learned. One can always use a little more knowledge. In an effort to test my knowledge, skill, and experience I’ve designed my own plan. This may or may not be the smartest idea when I’m trying to BQ. You’d think I would trust the professionals. But. I am a professional?? ha.

One thing I have been discovering about myself through it all is that my mind is still weak. I have too many thoughts of I can’t. No matter how much I blog and promote self-confidence it is something I still truly, honestly struggle with on a daily basis. I have told myself one too many times during a race that “i can’t. I’m not strong enough. I’ll never be fast enough. There’s no way I’m capable.”

BULLcrap.

So my biggest goal for this marathon training season is to get out of my head. And deeply, firmly, and passionately BELIEVE that yes, I am capable, MORE than capable in fact. I’m not talking about gaining some sort of alter ego here, rather finally affirming to myself what I claim to believe in  everyone else: YOU are strong and you CAN do this.

mental toughness..work in progress

mental toughness..work in progress

I will be going through #MarathonMonday a little differently this time. Last season I logged every week with workout details and I do feel that helped keep myself somewhat accountable, however, I’ve been logging all my workouts in my BELIEVE journal and have really been enjoying my own personal journey. It’s like my little running secret. I intend on claiming my mental toughness to break through some barriers…. let’s do this.

Which design from My BIG Dream shop would you chose? Have you heard of #Irun4? Do you believe you have that mental toughness or is it a struggle for you as well? What are you training for?
blessed and beautiful running.

Fitness Friday Link-UP! Mind the Little Things and Trust the Process.

Happy Friday y’all! Today I’m linking up with Jill Conyers for the Fitness Friday!

From her website:

What is Fitness Friday About?

Celebrating the one thing we all have in common. A passion and commitment for living a healthy lifestyle.

It’s about sharing progress and successes. Not perfection.

Celebrate fitness. Celebrate good health. Celebrate friends. Celebrate fun.

Link up and check out the great health and fitness blogs for inspiration, motivation, tasty recipes and stories of determination and accomplishments!

I am pretty much excited to link up with her about fitness. Y’all know that running is my most favorite thing but there’s also a few little things that I have to mind….

Fitness is a life long journey. You don’t just wake up fit one morning. It comes from the accumulation over time of every day persistence, hard work, efforts, and doing all the little things.

What do I mean by the little things?

I mean like drinking your water every day, taking time to stretch, remembering to breathe, tracking your nutrition, doing those boring stability exercises…

But by not minding the little things and rushing through the process you are more likely to become injured. The last thing you want is to be sidelined from life. So my thoughts today for you come via complements from my favorite Olympian:

karagoucherrushprogressq

Every small step has value. Don’t forget that. You may feel as though those boring bridge and clam shell exercises are pointless but they are vital in keeping your hips strong and stable which translates into stronger running. All it takes is one loose screw to mess up a clock…or one oil leak to burn up a car…

Take care of your engine by minding all those little things and trust the process!

I type all this to you as I’m about to venture into marathon training cycle number five with high hopes to finally BQing…I’m trusting the process…I didn’t quite make it with my last marathon in Nashville but I did take 18 minutes off my PR, raised almost $700 for St.Jude Children’s Hospital, and had a blast…so I’m making progress. And that’s what we celebrate!!

Remember progress comes in all forms. Look outside the box. Continue to believe in yourself!

karagoucherprogress

Before I head out to enjoy the weekend (((which happens to include The Beer Run Relay with the BRF this Saturday! I will be losing the 2 mins and not consuming. I think I’d dehydrate and die if I chose to drink and run. It’s not safe for me yall.))) I wanted to introduce you to the new website One Mother Runner created by Stacy:

OneMotherRunnerBlogButton1

Stacy has created an online community for real mother runners! It’s an open space with real content for us real mother runners! I particularly liked her view of the recent Women’s Running magazine cover:

WomensRunningMag

Look out for a guest post from yours truly soon!

One final thought:

Each person’s process is different. We all have our unique paces. Let us not compare to another. Your journey is YOURS alone! And it should  be celebrated no matter where you find yourself! In the same breathe we need to celebrate others’ journeys as well!! You are not too slow. They are not too fast. Rather we are just right where we need to be!

Are you good about “minding the little things”? Or do have the tendency to rush through the process? I know I’ve been way guilty! What do you think of the recent magazine cover? I love it! I say let’s celebrate every single body type!! 🙂
blessed and beautiful running.
