Wisdom Wednesday Daily Grind

Why do I get up early nearly every day to read my Bible, drink coffee, run, workout, blog…why do I choose to run marathons? Why do I do what I do?

There are many, if not most, people who question what I do, wonder why, and on the occasion even criticize my passion. But they have NO clue how many people’s lives I have the ability to touch and reach out to. Blogging is a huge platform. Marathoning can be an extremely social event. Running for charities is giving back to the community.

I could list and exhaust all my reasonings and still have people judge my intentions.

But you know what? Those who do don’t matter.

Remember David and Goliath? Even good men told him he was too small. He must be nuts.

We all know Noah and his arc. Now that man was definitely seen as a raving lunatic.

And Jesus. He was so persecuted he was put to death. But HE still changed the world.

I firmly believe God gives us each a very specific purpose in life. Though it might not be as dramatic as building an arc….

Bottom line: if you’re doing what you know you’re supposed to be doing with your time on earth, let them talk. Those who matter will cheer you on in this life and those who don’t, well…pray for ’em.
blessed and beautiful running.

Thoughts for Thursday: Workout with the WEEDS. Dig ’em up and Make the Time.¬†

I’m ever grateful to my late grandmother who strongly suggested I eat tomatoes and help her weed her garden. “Ew! No way grandma. Tomatoes are gross!” And “The bugs are gross too and weeding is too hard annnnnd it’s tooooo hot outside!”

Ha. I was that kid. I was also that kid who deliberately “forgot” her tennis shoes at home for PE class. Push-ups and running laps were too hard too.

But observe:

pushups and weeding. it goes together. total body workout.

I went for a morning run, then cleaned house, and worked in our garden and threw in push-ups for fun. It’s amazing how much I’ve grown and changed over the years.

I’m no longer afraid to get sweaty.

I’m no longer afraid to work hard

Because I know that hard work produces good things.

But,

“I don’t have tiiiiiime” yes you do. I didn’t have time to hit the gym so I made up an impromptu garden workout. Double whammy.

Make the time. Get creative. Make your health a priority. Because after all, you are stuck with the body you’re in for better or worse.

One way to make time is by evaluating the activities in your life. What can go? What’s excess? What’s draining you? Thin out the weeds in your world, chunk out the excess crap that’s useless or holding you back sucking all the nutrients out of YOU.
Like in life, don’t let the weeds of this world, too much tv – negative friends – dead end jobs – relationship suckers – hang ups and habits, steal your life’s nutrients that are JOY PEACE & LOVE. Dig ’em out by the roots, baby, so your flowers can flourish.

I won’t lie. Weeding is hard. Emotional weeding is even harder. But that’s okay. Hard work produces good things. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself. You’ll remain stagnant if you don’t. Maybe take a moment to journal your thoughts. Write out all the excess things in life that drag you down. Really dig deep. And make a plan of action to pull those things out!

Do you garden? Are there weeds in your life?

Wisdom Wednesday Plans Shmams. How to NOT Make Plans.

Hello Wednesday we meet again. I had plans for you. All kinds of well intention, carefully drafted, time-lined, and highlighted plans for you. But instead, my car battery died. My immediate thought,

“ohhhh-emmmm-geeeee. how am I going to drive to town to run?!” #slightlyobsessedrunner

It’s okay to totally LOL at me now.

My husband, true to his ever prepared self, hands me his car keys and told me to go out and run and we will solve the car problem when I return. Ladies, this is a wise man indeed. He knows how much happier momma is when her run is in and done.

After happily driving to running destination (sounds so ridiculous. drive to run. i know.) I realized I had forgotten to grab my arm band for music at the house and my Garmin would not connect.

But. Instead of freaking out (what has gotten into me?) I calmly, almost excitedly, thought,

“hmmm. a nice no-pressure-who-gives-a-crap-what-my-slow-pace-is-today run might be just what I need.”

So happily I ran off on a 6ish mile route I was familiar with. It was refreshing. Running naked can really help you to focus on your breathing and running technique. I highly recommend running naked once a week, at least.

Thank the Lord my husband was home to help take care of me and ‘ol Focus. After my run we spent our entire morning jumping off the car, carefully driving it to town, having it looked at, and blah blah blah {{insert boring as crap details here}}. While this might seem frustrating for the A-type it was kind of nice. Instead of planning I was just living in the “now”. ¬†Running without Garmin and music (Who AM I?!) and then it was nice to enjoy lunch with my kiddo and hubby. And this time instead of freaking out over the whole situation, as per usual, I decided to relax and enjoy the life snafu.

I feel as though God was reminding me to chill out. I have been uber stressed lately and taking it out on the world. But today instead I laugh. I smile. I am happy. I am full of joy because it is MY choice. And you have that choice too.

choose laughter when trouble comes. it lightens the load.

Not having plans can be refreshing. But it can also sometimes prevent sticking to routine! I’m currently “tuning up” so to speak, for the 10k on July 4th.¬†So, here’s my #MotivateMe Monday schedule:

Monday: XT 20 minutes + upper body strength routine

Tuesday: 7 miles speed work

Wednesday: 6(ish) miles easy + Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Thursday: 8 miles w/6@10k goal pace

Friday: 5 miles easy + lower body stability/strength routine

Saturday: 10 slow miles

Sunday: Planning for an easy 4. Kid goes to camp here so I will be lucky to get a run in.

Total goals miles: 40

Last but not least, I¬†introduced you guys to the Micro Nutrient company, EnduroPacks, a while back. I have now been using the product for a month and feel I can give you all a complete, thorough, and totally honest review. If there is one thing you can always count on from me (we all now know it’s not timely posts…) it’s the fact that I will always be¬†100% honest with my readers and do my homework before giving out any review. It will take me some time to properly type up the review as there is tons of good info. Look for it next week! For now I will just show you how it’s helped me thus far, observe below:

Finally the official review NEXT week!!

While my arms aren’t super mega buff they are most definitely way more defined than they ever have been. I feel like I am in better shape now than before I gave birth to a child.

A few key notes on the product to tide you over until next week:

  • I feel stronger and leaner
  • I have more energy throughout the day
  • My workouts have been top notch
  • I don’t dehydrate as bad on my runs when I use the electrolyte spray

Well, since my plans are a bit skewed for the day I might as well just take off to the pool now… enjoy y’alls humpday!

Are you a planner and freaker-outer (yes, it’s a word) when plans don’t go as originally planned?? If you’re married, is he/she your hero too? How are you blessed today? What makes you laugh? Have you heard of EnduroPacks? Do you use supplements?
blessed and beautiful running.

Sleepy Sunday, Self-Doubt, and Why I’m Not Racing…Right Now

be strong in the Lord. more race days will come! trash self-doubt and trust that He has made you strong and beautiful!

I absolutely revel in race day mornings. The excitement, free bananas, cool tees, the people, nerves, energy, the unknown, the run. And yesterday morning in my quiet little town they hosted the White Squirrel 5/10k hosted by Brevard Rotary which I have run a time or two in the past and have enjoyed the races. But I’m not racing this year. Here’s why:

  • as many of you know racing tends to get expensive. So I’ve been very picky and choosey about which distances and which races I’ll be running.
  • There’s that and I’ve run a marathon and a fast 5k all within four weeks of each other.
  •  I’m trying my hardest to focus on the easier runs and strength work.
  • Plus, most elite runners race only a handful of events anyway. There’s a very good reason for that. If you want to give your best at your goal race you must give your body the rest it needs. Not just a day or two either.
  • I want to be at my peak come marathon day in November. And that means ample rest to be ready to push hard when the time is right.
  • Racing too often, too much, too long stresses your body and increases risk of injury.

So what did I do with my Saturday? Well, at 8:00 I met with Jenna at Jenna Leigh Photography ((She is an incredibly talented photographer and I am sooooo freaking lucky to know her. If you’re in Western NC I can not highly recommend her more!!)) for a quick head shot for my Personal Trainer biz, which is a work in progress; check it out HERE so far to see where I am going with it. It’s definitely a work in progress!  We had fun this morning with some quick shots and overdue girl, fitness, mommy chat. Need more of that….

jenna aka best photographer ever

Then right after that I took off on a run to wallow in self pity about not racing clear my mind of a few stresses. I’d be a liar if I told you I totally didn’t run past the race event and whine in jealousy inside my mind a weeeee bit.  I’ve not been feeling my strongest lately mentally. I believe we A-type go getters tend to put too much pressure to be perfect in everything. I’ve come a long ways in growing and becoming okay with relaxing that idea some. But sometimes, every once in a while life just gets to me. Maybe it’s been my current pharmacy job getting me down, or the fact that I’m tirelessly trying to create a personal training biz that seems to be taking too long to lift off, or maybe it’s too much self-doubt. You gotta tell that ish to shut it up. Because ain’t no body got time for that mess. You are stronger than you think. And The Good Lord is even stronger.  Any good biz owner I’m sure will tell you it takes an insane amount of initial ground breaking work and lots of dedicated T-I-M-E to really get the ball rolling. Especially if you’re currently working a full-time job outside of the home. But in the long run it will all be worth it. The long runs always are.

i don’t always wear makeup when i run but when i do i take a selfie. lol i am no running diva i swear but post photo shoot i wanted to run!

As a fitness professional I am not exempt from feelings of insecurities and today proved that. When trying to pose for the camera I kept hearing those nasty little self-doubt bugs creep in trying to tell me lies. Like your teeth are crooked. Don’t smile. You’re not fit enough yet. Blah blah blah

You know what to tell those bugs: liar liar pants on fire! I may be a work in progress but I am strong and I am beautiful still!!!!

And on a more personal life note the husband and I are celebrating two years of togetherness this weekend! We went on our first date, a hike and ice-cream, two years ago during Memorial Day Weekend. This weekend we celebrated with cruising the town festival eating ridiculous amounts of tasty oh-so-bad-for-you food!

So that’s my weekend in a nutshell. I press on. Follow your heart. Never give up and tell those nasty bugs to shut it up!

I’m working all Sunday then group run Sunday eve!

What’s on your plate this weekend? How often do you race?

#MotivationalMonday Celebrate!!

IMG_2322.PNG

celebrate life.

Bill Rodgers says it best:

Running is a celebration of life.

When you’re running, your body is in motion. It’s breathing in and out, sweating, blood is pumping, muscles are engaged, propelling you forward across earth’s surface (or if you’re stuck on the ol ‘mill you can envision running through the trails). It is indeed an incredible celebration of life.
YOU ARE ALIVE! Many can not enjoy this celebration and it’s taken for granted too often…
I look at my son and he absolutely loves his life. He loves his family, friends, school, his dogs, cats… He just loves it. And during the parent teacher conference his teacher also confided in me that he loves his life so much that he probably shares more than we would probably like. I’m not sure what that means…ha. But.
While I was at work the boys worked on the yard… My son even loves life then. Thank you Mr. P for the picture while I was at work! Made my day so I thought of share with y’all. See picture below:

buried under the trees’ leaves

We should be more like children in some ways. Run carefree, laugh loud, and jump in a pile of leaves.
Life was made to enjoy. Work hard, yes, but don’t work and stress so much that you stop enjoying this incredible journal we call life. Be blessed and run beautifully happy.
