Compression Rocks My Socks Off GIVEAWAY!

Totally nerding out and going to work like this:

Think you know what compression is for? Compression is so much more than just for thrombosis and marathon running! It’s for marathon recovery and training, for long work days, hard workouts, long runs, & looking super fly.

 yo.

My poor feet and legs can become so swollen from standing on my feet all day at the pharmacy and then add marathon training in…and I usually have some pretty swollen puppies.

Theses socks were a God send to me. Thanks TIUX!

cool phrase inside sock says, run. jump. go. BUT wear socks unfolded up top. I just wanted to show off the the coolness.

cool phrase inside sock says, run. jump. go. BUT wear socks unfolded up top. I just wanted to show off the the coolness.

So why Tiux vs other leading brands?

The biggest reason for me is affordability. Finally an affordable option. For more info on how they keep costs SO low check out their about page HERE.

As a certified personal trainer do I advocate compression? Yes, in short I do. But not necessarily to build fitness, PR, or race faster but because they are awesome for recovery. There are some rough studies out there on compression socks for athletes and performance, but nothing quite conclusive yet. However, there’s nothing that suggests it’s harmful.

Benefits may include:

  • Increase in blood flow, increasing circulation throughout the legs aiding in free radical flushing
  • Decrease lactic acid build up
  • Decrease in swollen feet
  • Quicker recovery
  • Quicker recovery = quicker return to training hard

How did I feel personally about them?

  • I loved the color!
  • Great fit. True to size
  • Not as itchy as other brands
  • Not too warm (ran in the 60-70*)
  • Plenty of cushion on heel
  • Compression in all the places
  • Felt like a total leg massage

All I kept thinking was I wish this compression went all the way up to my butt! It felt that good! I have worn them  running and at work and I will say I experienced less swelling for sure!!

At the end of the day I feel compression is a totally personal choice. And if you do choose it I strongly recemmend TIUX because you’re saving some moolah. The extra cash could go into another race fee. Yes, please!! If you need further reason to purchase from TIUX you should know they are a giving back company. They give to MAG Mines Advisory  Group. For more info on that click on the photo below.

They keep things simple with few color choices, no store front buildings, and cutting out the middleman. I’m all for simplicity! Especially if it saves lives, saves a dollar, and gives me better recovery.

So my good friends at TIUX have graciously offered to give one of my stellar readers a pair. Luck YOU!

#MarathonMonday DREAM BIG + GIVEAWAY

#Irun4Dylan and Flying Feet in Faith

One for my #Irun4 buddy and one for me 🙂

Happy Monday y’all! What better way to kick off Monday and marathon training than with a giveaway?! Yeah I thought you’d agree it’s an awesome idea. When Christine (an amazing mother runner, blogger, and coach) contacted me via Dream Big Runner about her Dream Big Shop I immediately knew I wanted to partner with her! She has a big heart.  I think of the running community as a wonderful group of generous givers. And what better way to be involved than creating running jewelry and giving back?!

For every purchase off her Etsy shop she donates $2 to charity. And her new shop has taken off already donating over $1000!!

The shipping was prompt, price affordable, and the quality high. And they are customizable to almost any design you can think of! I’m thoroughly impressed and can’t wait to put my buddy’s bracelet in the mail. He lives a few states away so our matching bracelets are a sweet way to connect us. If you haven’t heard of #Irun4 it’s basically a community of runners/athletes who run/workout for a child with special needs who themselves can not run. It has been such a heartwarming journey for me personally and I tell you, my buddy is my hero and motivator!

I had the shoe tags designed after my blog and it’s motto…flying feet in faith.

So you want one too? Good news! Christine is generously giving away a bracelet or set of shoe tags to one of my readers.

***To enter to win: like My Dream Big Shop on FACEBOOK and visit My Dream Big Shop on ETSY and comment below with your favorite design through my FACEBOOOK Rafflecopter giveaway HERE

Contest starts today and ends Sunday at midnight! Good LUCK! 🙂

So marathon training….we meet again….

How am I training for this marathon season? Which plan? What book?!

Yes, I do have a new book. But no, I’m not following it’s plan. I’m reading it for marathon training content and extra lessons to be learned. One can always use a little more knowledge. In an effort to test my knowledge, skill, and experience I’ve designed my own plan. This may or may not be the smartest idea when I’m trying to BQ. You’d think I would trust the professionals. But. I am a professional?? ha.

One thing I have been discovering about myself through it all is that my mind is still weak. I have too many thoughts of I can’t. No matter how much I blog and promote self-confidence it is something I still truly, honestly struggle with on a daily basis. I have told myself one too many times during a race that “i can’t. I’m not strong enough. I’ll never be fast enough. There’s no way I’m capable.”

BULLcrap.

So my biggest goal for this marathon training season is to get out of my head. And deeply, firmly, and passionately BELIEVE that yes, I am capable, MORE than capable in fact. I’m not talking about gaining some sort of alter ego here, rather finally affirming to myself what I claim to believe in  everyone else: YOU are strong and you CAN do this.

mental toughness..work in progress

mental toughness..work in progress

I will be going through #MarathonMonday a little differently this time. Last season I logged every week with workout details and I do feel that helped keep myself somewhat accountable, however, I’ve been logging all my workouts in my BELIEVE journal and have really been enjoying my own personal journey. It’s like my little running secret. I intend on claiming my mental toughness to break through some barriers…. let’s do this.

Which design from My BIG Dream shop would you chose? Have you heard of #Irun4? Do you believe you have that mental toughness or is it a struggle for you as well? What are you training for?
blessed and beautiful running.

Making a Difference Link-Up With Miles-to-Go & NUUN GIVEAWAY!!

Miles To Go Y’all!!! I’m way excited once again to be joining Kelly over at Miles-to-Go for her making a difference link-up! Why? Because there’a giveaway here!! But first…

This is a once monthly event held on Wednesdays about giving back through running or anything fitness related. I had so many things to blog about last time, here, when it comes to giving back so I decided to break it down into four parts. I touched on the topics you can expect from me in the upcoming months last post so today I’m going to start with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital fundraising in honor of the marathon coming up in 10 days!!!!  I had set a personal goal to raise $500.00 and I’m only $75 shy of that.

Why am I so personally passionate about raising funds for St.Jude’s hospital??

  • Children are a precious gift
  • Medical care is outrageously expensive
  • Cancer sucks and it’s unfair that it attacks the lives of anyone, especially little lives
  • It reminds me to appreciate my own child and his health
  • Fund raising for others teaches my son to be grateful for his moving, strong, healthy body and what it means to give back
  • You never know when YOU may need the help someday
  • We can feel helpless in situations like cancer but giving back helps us feel like we have done something.
  • I may not be a doctor and so I can not help those who are ill in that respect, but I can RUN & support those who do have the skills to help heal! We can all play a part in this life to help others. Do what you can, where you are!

St.Jude HERO! This tank is my super hero cape 😉 Be a super hero and give to kids in need!

From the St.Jude’s website:

Every dollar donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital counts! Take a look at some of the possibilities that your effort could provide to the kids and families of St. Jude.

Infant Care Supplies for 10 Babies: $50

These supplies help parents and nurses care for babies in treatment and include items like diapers, baby bottles, sippy cups, pacifiers, footies and heel warmers.

Wagon: $70

Wagons can make traveling through the halls of St. Jude easier for parents and more fun for a young child.

Parties to celebrate birthdays, holidays and “coming off chemo”: $75

St. Jude provides parties, decorations, cakes and more to keep spirits high during the holidays and to celebrate special occasions like birthdays and a child’s completion of chemotherapy treatment.

If this isn’t enough to make you want to support St. Jude maybe this will,

And lastly….If that still isn’t enough to encourage you to give I have devised a challenge & GIVEAWAY for you: Since I am running the Country Music Rock n’ Roll Marathon next Saturday, I am offering YOU the chance to guess my finishing marathon time! Whoever comes closest WINS a free tube of NUUN.

NUUN has gotten me through many tough running workouts and helps keep my hydrated without all the chemicals and sugars other drinks offer.

@EnergyBits Review and Giveaway

20140627-063032-23432121.jpg
Disclosure: I was provided a free sample in return for an honest blog post product review. All opinions are my own. No additional form of compensation was provided.

The Goods:
ONE ingredient
ZERO caffeine, sugar, chemicals
NON-GMO
100% certified organic
Not a supplement. It’s FOOD!
Zero carbon footprint
High protein

20140627-063854-23934507.jpg
Loved:
Convenient pack. Stash in purse or pocket.
The nice stream of steady energy. No crazy rush, then crash…ZERO crash.
The fact that it is a natural food I’m putting in my body. Not a chemically engineered supplement.

Can get past:
If you struggle with swallowing tablets it could be difficult. They say you can swallow all 30 at one time but I chose to swig 15 and 15. My fiancé swallowed them all with out any trouble. Yes, he’s my new food, supplement, and/product guenni pig! He’s a trooper.
The taste isn’t horrible. Especially if you just swig the tabs down.
Slight fish food smell. That could just be my weird nose??

But did they work?
Point blank, yes. At first I didn’t see a big difference, but that’s the beauty of it. You’re not all jacked up at first. It’s all natural. Like you’ve had a great night’s sleep.
Where I really noticed it working was during my hard speed session workout. I normally have to walk during my recovery intervals (RI) but with EnergyBits I was able to slow jog each RI and complete my 800s as prescribed.
I walked my RIs today…out of Bits. Hmm. Coincidence? I think not.

20140627-125242-46362919.jpg
Price:
1,000 tabs for $115.00 that’s about 33 servings in a bag.
This is where the buck stops for me. For the modestly funded runner, the Bits do fall on the higher end of fuel choices. But we pay for what we put in our bodies… Do we want to pay for chemicals or God’s natural fuel from the earth?
ENERGYBits also offers a full line of products including:
SkinnyBits
VitalityBits
RecoveryBits

The good folks at EnergyBits have been so kind as to offer a FREE sample to one of my fabulous readers.

**Rules and Regulations**
You must be 18 or older and a resident of the United States (I’m so sorry my Canadian friends!)
To enter: Its’s easy! Simply leave me a comment telling me about your running and/or workout fuel of choice for energy!
Winner: Will be selected at random and announced Thursday, July 3rd on this blog.
Method of delivery of prize: your info will be sent directly to the ENERGYBits team and you will receive a free sample from the company.
Good luck!
