#MarathonMonday, 5 Motivational Songs for the Long Run, and a WINNER

Happy Monday y’all! I had a long but fun weekend. Friday was boring with at home work. Saturday I cheered on my girls at the Color Run in Asheville:

Vixons and Villians!

They are all amazing women and I couldn’t be prouder!! These were some of my Sunday night Flying Feet in Faith Ladies RUN group runners. Go girls!!!

Then, Sunday was my first long run of this marathon cycle with 97% humidity.  As a distance runner I’m so over running through soup. ugh. But. Glad it’s done. And the crazy thing was as I was running I kept thinking “how dear Lord, am ever going to run 26.2 miles any faster than this?!” Funny how with each training cycle I think very similar thoughts. I had to remind myself that I have fun four marathons now. And I always finish them. Not always strong, but, I still finish them. So yes, I can cover the distance! Having my new inspirational bracelet form My Big Dream Shop is pretty motivting too. Oh, and I finally hit my mileage goal I set for myself a few weeks ago! So far week one marathon of marathon training was right on target. Only 15 weeks to go…

I’m digging my new #Irun4 bracelet thanks to Dream Big Runner!!

Then I’ve been thinking a lot about what words I’m putting in to my head. From my own inner thoughts to the words in my earbuds. Sometimes you just need that good beat to get your booty in gear on the run. Especially if you’re struggling through a long tempo run. Finding good, positive, and upbeat running Christian music can be tough to find. Let alone finding any kind of song without copious amounts of cursing. So I’ve compiled five favorites of mine. I hope you enjoy them as well!

5 Motivational Songs to Get You Going

1.) Soul On Fire by Third Day

This one is by far my favorite right now! When I’m having a great run I feel like my soul is indeed on fire.

2.) Brother by Need to Breathe

This one isn’t really for speed work but it’s great for the long run. I am in love with it’s message.  Be a “sister” in the running community!

3.) The Lost Get Found Britt Nicole

This song has been one of my favorites for a few years. It reminds me to be the light of the world! Don’t let your fire burn out!

4.) Overcomer by Mandisa

’nuff said here! Running a marathon is truly a courageous adventure where you will have to overcome many obstacles!

5.) Overwhelmed by Big Daddy Weave

This one speaks to me when I’m running in the forest. Because I am just absolutely overwhelmed by how AWESOME God is and how MARVELOUS this world is. From the mountains to the oceans His glory is everywhere. And who am I? I am but another small human. And it’s overwhelming. Even if you aren’t a believer, you have to admit that when you stand next to the ocean or great mountain you must feel overwhelmed at some point…

I’ve been known to throw my hands up and praise God during a run…I may look cray cray but I am indeed blessed!!!

Oh yes, and the winner from My Big Dream giveaway is:
Jackie M.

congrats and your info will be on the way soon!!!

How’s your training going? Fav run? Fav weekend happening? Fav song?? What would you add to this playlist? Do you listen to music when you run?

blessed and beautiful running.

#MarathonMonday DREAM BIG + GIVEAWAY

#Irun4Dylan and Flying Feet in Faith

One for my #Irun4 buddy and one for me 🙂

Happy Monday y’all! What better way to kick off Monday and marathon training than with a giveaway?! Yeah I thought you’d agree it’s an awesome idea. When Christine (an amazing mother runner, blogger, and coach) contacted me via Dream Big Runner about her Dream Big Shop I immediately knew I wanted to partner with her! She has a big heart.  I think of the running community as a wonderful group of generous givers. And what better way to be involved than creating running jewelry and giving back?!

For every purchase off her Etsy shop she donates $2 to charity. And her new shop has taken off already donating over $1000!!

The shipping was prompt, price affordable, and the quality high. And they are customizable to almost any design you can think of! I’m thoroughly impressed and can’t wait to put my buddy’s bracelet in the mail. He lives a few states away so our matching bracelets are a sweet way to connect us. If you haven’t heard of #Irun4 it’s basically a community of runners/athletes who run/workout for a child with special needs who themselves can not run. It has been such a heartwarming journey for me personally and I tell you, my buddy is my hero and motivator!

I had the shoe tags designed after my blog and it’s motto…flying feet in faith.

So you want one too? Good news! Christine is generously giving away a bracelet or set of shoe tags to one of my readers.

***To enter to win: like My Dream Big Shop on FACEBOOK and visit My Dream Big Shop on ETSY and comment below with your favorite design through my FACEBOOOK Rafflecopter giveaway HERE

Contest starts today and ends Sunday at midnight! Good LUCK! 🙂

So marathon training….we meet again….

How am I training for this marathon season? Which plan? What book?!

Yes, I do have a new book. But no, I’m not following it’s plan. I’m reading it for marathon training content and extra lessons to be learned. One can always use a little more knowledge. In an effort to test my knowledge, skill, and experience I’ve designed my own plan. This may or may not be the smartest idea when I’m trying to BQ. You’d think I would trust the professionals. But. I am a professional?? ha.

One thing I have been discovering about myself through it all is that my mind is still weak. I have too many thoughts of I can’t. No matter how much I blog and promote self-confidence it is something I still truly, honestly struggle with on a daily basis. I have told myself one too many times during a race that “i can’t. I’m not strong enough. I’ll never be fast enough. There’s no way I’m capable.”

BULLcrap.

So my biggest goal for this marathon training season is to get out of my head. And deeply, firmly, and passionately BELIEVE that yes, I am capable, MORE than capable in fact. I’m not talking about gaining some sort of alter ego here, rather finally affirming to myself what I claim to believe in  everyone else: YOU are strong and you CAN do this.

mental toughness..work in progress

I will be going through #MarathonMonday a little differently this time. Last season I logged every week with workout details and I do feel that helped keep myself somewhat accountable, however, I’ve been logging all my workouts in my BELIEVE journal and have really been enjoying my own personal journey. It’s like my little running secret. I intend on claiming my mental toughness to break through some barriers…. let’s do this.

Which design from My BIG Dream shop would you chose? Have you heard of #Irun4? Do you believe you have that mental toughness or is it a struggle for you as well? What are you training for?

Sup y’all, it’s Friday!! So pumped for the Friday Five link-up hosted by CourtneyCynthia, and Mar. Check out their rules and future topics HERE! The BEST way to connect with new bloggers. Let’s just dive right in shall we? I won’t monopolize your Friday morning with too much rambling. Promise. 😉

5 Exciting Things About Running Currently

1.) Okay, so y’all know I’m all registered for marathon number 5 now, right?! Thanks to my sweet husband who gave me his credit card and let me pull the trigger. Mr. P also registered for the half. He was this close to breaking 2:00! Savannah, we are coming back for redemption full force baby!! This right here is exciting enough to qualify for all five exciting things about running…but wait, there’s more…

2.) Pluuuuuus my BRF is signed up too!  Annnnnnnnd another local rock star runner has come back to town from her awesome running, burro racing adventures (yes, it’s a real thing. Check it out HERE!) in Colorado and is running Savannah too! Both A and L and smokin’ fast and strong runners and I’m beyond excited and privileged to run with them!!

Colorado you are on my bucket list!! Maybe not with the burro though… Source

3.) Annnnnnd many of our Transylvania county runners are registered!  I had a great time at our Greenville race so I’m thrilled about the group going!

From our Green Valley Race in SC!

4.) I ran on national running day. Of course. But on that day I also met with a new client who used to run 10 miles a day and wants to get back into running more again. A woman after my own heart…being able to encourage and train has probably been the most exciting thing lately.. It truly fills my soul with joy.

5.) I’m finally, finalizing my marathon training plan and even typing it up all pretty! wheeeeeee!

I can not wait to test my mind, body, and soul again. Test me Lord.

How was your week? What’s exciting about running for you lately?! Have you heard of burro racing? Do you race with friends?

Thinking Out Loud Thursday…Maybe It Was the Popcorn and Chocolate.

Thinking-Out-Loud

Thank you Amanda at Running With Spoons for hosting Thursdays are for Thinking Out Loud! It’s the perfect link-up to get all my crazy thoughts off my mind.

I’m going to be honest. I struggle. I really, really struggle.

Maybe it was the popcorn and chocolate last night.

Maybe I need new shoes.

Maybe it was the HIGH pollen count in the air.

I don’t get it. It was a sunny, cool, and glorious day here in the mountains of western NC but my run felt HARD. I felt heavy, slow, and out of breathe the entire time. And I kept finding myself angry with my body.

Why is this so hard? I am so blessed to be out here! Did I not pray right this morning? Is it because I got too frustrated with the dog?

Maybe I am dehydrated.

Maybe I am tired.

Maybe I am over thinking the whole situation.

Part of my game plan this week was to hit the weights more and focus on over all strength and total body conditioning. And in my running journal this week I even promised myself to not beat myself up for not running as much. But I fear losing all that endurance I built over the past four months…BUT I also know a.) I will not lose a substantial amount of endurance and  b.) how important it is to remain strong and healthy. My body can not just keep pounding the pavement without a serious break here and there. It’s only been three weeks post marathon and I’m already beating myself up for not running 30+ mileage weeks. Dummy. Get over it.

I know that the body needs rest and a restorative period. Especially if I’m going to ask it to marathon train all over a gain in two months. I keep trying to remind myself that I will have another four brutal months to beat myself up.

JUST CHILL.

Do you struggle running during the warmer months? How low do you keep your mileage after a marathon? What’s on YOUR mind this Thursday?
